RONCELLA Riccardo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering and Architecture at the University of Parma, Italy, where he has been employed full-time since 2008 and promoted to Associate Professor in 2014. He qualified as a Full Professor through Italy’s National Scientific Qualification in 2017. His academic work spans photogrammetry, remote sensing, geomatics, and civil engineering, with strong applications in environmental monitoring, cultural heritage, and geohazard assessment. Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, University of Parma, 2006 M.Sc. in Civil Engineering, University of Parma, 2002 (110/110 magna cum laude) Prof. Roncella’s research focuses on photogrammetry, UAV-based remote sensing, digital image correlation, and 3D modeling, with applications in rock slope stability, cultural heritage documentation, environmental monitoring, and precision agriculture. His work integrates advanced image matching algorithms and software development for geospatial analysis. He has led the development of several software tools including EyeDEA, RockScan, DICe, DenseMatcher, and SlopeMonitor. His publication record includes over 70 journal papers in top-tier journals such as ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, and Remote Sensing. His recent work emphasizes automated monitoring, HBIM, low-cost sensing, and digital twin creation, showing a consistent trend toward practical, scalable solutions in geomatics and civil engineering. Scientific Awards: Best Ph.D. Italian Thesis - Autec Price (2006) Prof. Roncella has secured significant research funding as Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-Investigator (CI), including an ARC Discovery Project (AUD 385K), ACARP funding (AUD 210K), and EU POR FESR grants exceeding €1 million. He has mentored over 30 MEng students and supervised multiple PhD candidates. He also serves on scientific committees and editorial boards, including Remote Sensing (MDPI), and acts as a reviewer for leading journals and grant agencies.
