Dr. Christian Winzer is a Lecturer at the Center for Energy and Environment within the ZHAW School of Management and Law at Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW). His research focuses on electricity market design, energy security, and innovative tariff structures. He holds a PhD in Management Science from the University of Cambridge and academic credentials from the University of Karlsruhe (KIT). His work emphasizes practical applications of energy economics, including grid tariff optimization, demand response mechanisms, and fostering social acceptance of energy technologies. Professionally, he has served as an Associate Director at IHS Markit and Policy Advisor at the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change. His current projects include leadership roles in initiatives like NETFLEX (designing cost-effective grid tariffs) and Positive Energy District (algorithmic dispatch optimization). He frequently collaborates with institutions like Swissgrid and the Federal Office of Energy (BFE). Winzer’s research outputs span peer-reviewed journals ( Energy Policy , Communications Earth & Environment ), policy reports, and conference contributions. His recent work addresses household tariff preferences, pandemic-driven load forecasting, and energy transition governance frameworks. He is actively involved in shaping Switzerland’s energy policies through evidence-based recommendations on grid tariffs, flexibility incentives, and regulatory reforms.
