Jacob Wittrup Schmidt is an Associate Professor at the Department of the Built Environment, Faculty of Engineering and Science, Aalborg University. His research focuses on structural engineering, specializing in advanced concrete technologies, bridge assessment, and carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) strengthening systems. His work emphasizes sustainability through projects like CFRP strengthening systems and proof loading of bridges. Research themes include structural reliability, material durability under environmental stressors, and digitalization of infrastructure management. Recent publications highlight innovations in non-destructive testing methods such as proof load configurations and digital image correlation for structural health monitoring. Collaborative efforts have advanced international standards for bridge safety evaluations. Schmidt leads projects like Brotestprojekt V2 and CFRP Strengthening System , focusing on upgrading concrete structures and novel reinforcement techniques. He directs research groups in Sustainable Structures, Materials and Construction.
