Professor Gila Safran Naveh holds the Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati Chair in Judaic Studies and serves as Department Head at the University of Cincinnati. She specializes in Holocaust Studies, Genocide Studies, Critical Theory, and Gender and Judaism, with interdisciplinary expertise in Semiotics and Linguistics. Her academic trajectory includes roles from Visiting Assistant Professor (1978-1986) to full Professor (1999–present). Key works include Biblical Parables and Their Modern Recreations (2000) and Unpacking the Heart with Words (in progress). She has organized major conferences, including the Semiotic Society of America meetings in 1988 and 2010, and founded the Center for Jewish Cultures and Ideas. Awards include the George C. Barbour Award (2006) and Edith Alexander Award (2000) for teaching excellence.
