Johanna Pieper is a Doctoral Researcher at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA), specializing in Latin American policy analysis within the GIGA Institute for Latin American Studies. Her research focuses on social protection mechanisms, gender-based violence policies, and child labor eradication efforts across Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East during the COVID-19 pandemic. M.A. in Euroculture (European Studies) from Georg-August-University of Göttingen and Rijksuniversiteit Groningen B.A. in Translation from Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg Her dissertation examines regulationist versus abolitionist approaches to child labor in Latin America, emphasizing domestic and external influences. She has contributed to multiple GIGA Focus publications, including analyses of cash transfer programs in Peru and the political dynamics of Andean female leaders. Pieper has also participated in academic symposia on Bolivian studies and moderated panel discussions on feminist agendas in Brazil, Colombia, and Germany.
