Liona Paulus is a Researcher and doctoral student at the Department of German Philology, University of Göttingen. Her work focuses on sign language studies, deaf culture, and educational policy for the deaf. She also teaches German Sign Language (DGS) for beginners through the 'SignTimes' association since 2010. Education: Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (B.A. in Book Studies, Art History, Portuguese Romance Studies); Erasmus semester at Università di Bologna; Advanced training at University of Hamburg's Institute for German Sign Language. Her research interests emphasize comparative studies between German Sign Language (DGS) and Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS), inspired by her year-long volunteer work at Escola Frei Pacífico in Porto Alegre, Brazil. She highlights Brazil's progressive educational policies for the deaf and integrates this perspective into her academic work.
