Shafiullah Soomro serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence at Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering Science and Technology, Pakistan. He completed his Ph.D. in Application Software from Chung-Ang University, South Korea (2018), where he was honored as Best PhD Graduate. Specializing in automatic segmentation techniques using machine learning, he combines theoretical frameworks with practical biomedical implementations. Recent work integrates Swedish National Forest Inventory data with airborne laser scanning for forest attribute prediction. Current research projects include ForestMap (global forest cartography), AI-driven tree volume measurement (Sweden-Brazil collaboration), and machine learning models for predicting mechanical properties of oxynitride glasses. Andreas Korn serves as Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor at Uppsala University's Department of Physics and Astronomy, specializing in Astronomy and Space Physics. His research focuses on stellar spectroscopy and Galactic archaeology, studying stars like the Sun (~6000 K) to decipher the origin and evolution of chemical elements and the Milky Way Galaxy. Dr. Korn's primary research interests include stellar evolution, chemical abundances in stars, and the formation history of the Milky Way. His work combines observational astronomy with theoretical modeling to unravel complex galactic processes. He has made significant contributions to understanding stellar lithium depletion and chemical evolution of the Milky Way, with discoveries including the (then) most pristine star in the Milky Way (Christlieb et al. 2002) and a stellar solution to the cosmological lithium problem (Korn et al. 2006). His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on Galactic archaeology, stellar evolution, and instrumentation development. Key themes include chemical abundance analysis of stellar populations, asteroseismology of metal-poor stars, and the development of next-generation spectroscopic instruments like ANDES for the Extremely Large Telescope. His work spans observational data from major surveys including Gaia, Gaia-ESO, and upcoming 4MOST instrumentation. Dr. Korn has secured over 20 million SEK in principal investigator funding for his research group and serves as Co-Investigator on a Wallenberg grant totaling 34 MSEK. He actively supervises students including PhD candidate Bea Villarroel, whose work received significant recognition in Nature Physics. Dr. Korn is deeply committed to public outreach, with his work featured in SVT Rapport and Swedish Radio P3. He has given public lectures on astronomy topics including presentations aboard a Finland ferry as part of SciCruise and astronomical introductions to cultural events like Radiokören concerts in Stockholm.
