Dr Justine Shaw is an Associate Professor in the School of Biology & Environmental Science at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), specializing in conservation science with a focus on Antarctic and island ecosystems. Her research bridges ecology, policy, and governance to improve environmental protection decisions. She holds a PhD from the University of Tasmania (2005) and has held roles in government agencies and prestigious institutions like the University of Stellenbosch and the University of Queensland. Currently at QUT since 2021, she leads fieldwork globally, collaborates with governments and NGOs, and advocates for gender equity in STEMM. Key collaborations include the Australian Antarctic Division, Tasmania state government, and international Antarctic conservation networks. She co-founded Homeward Bound and the Women in Polar Science Network, promoting leadership for women scientists.
