Artur Wolek is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is a resident faculty member of the NC Battery Complexity, Autonomous Vehicle and Electrification Research Center (BATT CAVE) and an affiliate faculty member of the Charlotte Aviation Innovation and Research Institute (Charlotte AIR). His Honors Faculty status (term ending June 30, 2030) underscores his academic distinction. Wolek earned his B.S. and Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Tech (2010 and 2015). He held postdoctoral roles at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (2015-2018) and the University of Maryland (2018-2020), and was an Adjunct Lecturer at Catholic University of America (2017-2018). He joined UNC Charlotte in 2021 and founded the Autonomous Robots and Systems Laboratory (ARSL). His research focuses on autonomous systems, including aerospace and marine robotics, optimal motion planning, multi-robot coordination, and trajectory optimization. Key areas include vehicle dynamics and control, path planning in complex environments, and adaptive data collection. His work has been supported by NSF, AFOSR, and other agencies. Wolek teaches courses in dynamics, robotics, and aerospace engineering. He is a Senior Member of AIAA and IEEE, and actively publishes over 55 peer-reviewed articles. His lab locations include Duke Centennial Hall and BATT CAVE Research Building.
