José Faias is an Associate Professor of Finance and Academic Director of the Master's Programs in Finance at Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics , Universidade Católica Portuguesa. He holds a PhD in Finance from Nova SBE, an MBA from CATÓLICA-LISBON, and a Bachelor's in Mathematics Applied to Actuarial Science from Nova SST. Research Interests : His work focuses on empirical finance, including stock market efficiency, risk management, investor heterogeneity, mergers & acquisitions, catastrophe risk bonds, and quantitative portfolio management. His research has been published in top journals and presented at major finance, statistics, and economics conferences. Teaching & Awards : He received nine CATÓLICA-LISBON Distinguished Teaching Awards (2016-2024) and the 2022 BME Award for best paper on Fixed Income Markets. He teaches courses like Empirical Finance, Data Science for Finance, and Methods in Finance. Grants & Projects : He led FCT-funded projects such as The Interplay Between Agents in the Financial Marketplace (2018-2022) and the EU-funded GIFTED project (2012-2013). Co-led multiple FCT projects on asset valuation, portfolio construction, and tail risk.
