Dr. Rafat Alam is an Associate Professor and Discipline Coordinator in the Economics Program at MacEwan University's Department of Anthropology, Economics and Political Science. He holds a PhD from the University of Ottawa, MA from UBC, and undergraduate degrees from the University of Dhaka. His research focuses on biodiversity conservation economics, environmental policy, development economics, and teaching methodologies in economics. He oversees the Economics Work Placement Program and contributes to faculty governance. Education: PhD in Economics, University of Ottawa MA in Economics, University of British Columbia MSS in Economics, University of Dhaka BSS in Economics, University of Dhaka Research interests include applying economic principles to environmental conservation, analyzing trade impacts on biodiversity, and improving economics pedagogy. His recent work examines workplace application of economics education and urban transit effects on property values. He has been awarded grants from the Alberta Association of Colleges and MacEwan University, alongside a Commonwealth Fellowship. He advises senior students’ independent studies and has been involved in program development, faculty governance, and rank/title guidelines. His teaching spans microeconomics, development economics, and environmental policy courses.
