Dr. Simon Evans is a Lecturer in Neuroscience at the University of Surrey's School of Psychology. He holds a PhD from UCL Institute of Neurology (2011) and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Sussex, focusing on MRI techniques and genetic influences on brain activity. His research investigates brain imaging applications to understand cognitive changes across the lifespan, aiming to inform interventions for healthy cognitive ageing. Evans teaches modules including 'Neural Effects of Ageing, Stroke and Dementia' and core Biological Psychology courses. He collaborates internationally on projects such as the ESRC-funded SMART study exploring cognitive abilities in translation professionals, and the PsyShareD initiative advancing open MRI data for psychosis research. Key research collaborations include work with Prof. Jenny Rusted (Sussex) on APOE and brain ageing, Dr. Elena Davitti (Surrey) on multilingualism and cognitive performance, and Prof. Mario Pedrazzoli (Sao Paolo) on circadian rhythms and health. His work has addressed pandemic impacts on mental health, sleep quality, and substance use among youth. Notable grants include a £426k award for the SMART study. Evans' research aligns with sustainable development goals related to mental health, ageing, and equitable access to knowledge.
