Benedikt Grammer is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Social Ecology within the Department of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). His work spans multiple interdisciplinary research projects funded by the Austrian Science Fund, European Commission, and Austrian Research Promotion Agency, focusing on the intersection of environmental systems and socioeconomic processes. His research interests encompass climate change, environmental research, human ecology, sustainable agriculture, sustainable economics, environmental economics, environmental sociology, cultural landscape research, environmental policy, and material flow analysis. Grammer's work particularly emphasizes social metabolism - examining how societies transform materials and energy and how these processes relate to environmental sustainability and social organization. His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on socio-ecological modeling, material stock dynamics, and the impacts of extreme events on agricultural decision-making. His research shows a progression toward increasingly sophisticated modeling of socio-ecological systems, with recent work developing comprehensive models of economy-wide material flows and their environmental implications. Active research projects funded by multiple European Commission programs Projects addressing critical sustainability challenges including climate change adaptation, circular economy transition, and sustainable land use Interdisciplinary collaborations across environmental science, economics, and social sciences Grammer's research group appears to focus on developing and applying socio-ecological models to understand complex interactions between human societies and environmental systems. His work on material stock accounting and social metabolism provides important insights into the biophysical foundations of economic systems and their sustainability implications.
