Claudio Campagnari is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), where he has been a faculty member since 1994, when he joined as an Assistant Professor. He served as Chair of the Physics Department from 2018 to 2023 and maintains an active research program in experimental high energy physics. Campagnari is a prominent researcher who has made significant contributions to particle physics through major experiments including CDF, BaBar, and CMS. His educational background includes: BS in Physics (First Class Honours) from the University of Sussex (Brighton, UK) in 1982 PhD in Physics from Yale University in 1988, with thesis research on lepton flavor violation decays of K-mesons at Brookhaven National Laboratory Campagnari's research focuses on experimental high energy physics, particularly particle properties and fundamental interactions. His work centers around the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, where he is a key member of the CMS collaboration. He played significant roles in the discovery of the top quark in 1994-95 and the Higgs boson in 2012. His current research emphasizes Higgs boson studies, searches for exotic new physics signatures including long-lived particles, and the development of silicon trackers for particle detection.
