Hiroyasu Kimizuka is a Professor at Waseda University's Faculty of Social Sciences, specializing in Early Modern European history with a focus on French maritime and socio-economic systems. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of South Brittany (France) and has been affiliated with Waseda University since 2015. His academic roles include teaching graduate courses on socio-economic historical research and undergraduate courses on European social history. Recent publications explore the Atlantic economy ( Morals and the Economy seen from Taverns , 2024) and coffee networks (2022). His work often combines archival analysis with comparative perspectives, including cross-regional studies between France and Japan. 2023 Waseda Research Award Kimizuka leads research projects funded by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, including studies on seafood trade in Languedoc (2021-2024) and global seafaring networks (2016-2020). He also engages in sub-affiliated roles at Waseda's Global Education Center and School of Culture, Media and Society.
