Jonas Hansson serves as Associate Professor at the Unit of Police Work, Umeå University, where he conducts research and teaches across bachelor's and master's police programs. A former police officer with extensive field experience as supervisor, field training officer, and tactics instructor, he holds a PhD in Public Health (2017) from Umeå University's Department of Public Health and Clinical Medicine. Research interests center on policing dynamics with emphasis on mental health, stress management, AI integration, tactical decision-making, and conflict resolution. His work examines police officers' coping mechanisms, discretion in high-stakes situations, situation awareness during interventions, and ethical challenges in asylum processes. Current projects include AI-assisted police work development and studies on gender-based harassment within police organizations. Distinguished university teacher award recipient Hansson supervises bachelor's, master's, and doctoral theses in police work while leading significant research initiatives including the Mareld project on prioritized neighborhoods and evaluations of electroshock weapons (CEW). His work bridges academic rigor with practical policing applications, focusing on improving officer well-being and operational effectiveness through evidence-based approaches.
