Pilar Nogues-Marco is an Associate Professor in Economic History at the University of Geneva 's Paul Bairoch Institute of Economic History. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics (International Finance) from Sciences-Po Paris and has held academic positions at Carlos III University of Madrid, Pompeu Fabra University, Sciences-Po Paris, and the University of Barcelona. Research Interests include Financial Development, Monetary Systems, Globalization, and Capitalism, with a focus on monetary and financial history from the early modern period to the present. Her work bridges economic theory with historical analysis, examining topics like colonial extraction, currency integration, and banking institutions. Key Publications span monetary geography, gold standard dynamics, and early financial derivatives. Her research has been funded by the Bank of Spain (2024-2027) and supported by the Geneva School of Social Sciences and the University of Geneva's IT Commission. Scientific Awards Hamilton Prize 2020 Figuerola Prize (best paper in European Review of Economic History, 2007-2009) Administrative Roles include directing the Scientific Committee for the Ph.D. Program in Economic and Social History and representing the Paul Bairoch Institute on the CAP-HIST Lab Executive Committee (2024-2028). Teaching encompasses Master-level courses in Global Capitalism History and Bachelor-level courses in Early Modern Economic History. She co-organizes the Research Seminar in Economic History at the University of Geneva.
