Juan José Moreno-Navarro is a Professor at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and a Research Professor at IMDEA Software Institute. He has been affiliated with UPM since 1996 and joined IMDEA at its foundation in 2005. He served as Deputy Director of IMDEA until 2008 and is currently on leave as Director General for University Policies at the Spanish Ministry of Education. PhD in Computer Science from Technical University of Madrid, Spain (1989), with part of his doctoral work conducted at RWTH Aachen, Germany His research interests center on declarative and rigorous software development technologies, including specification languages, automatic code generation, and software services description. He focuses on the integration of functional and logic programming to enhance language expressiveness for real-world applications, having led the design and implementation of the BABEL language and contributed to the international development of Curry. Moreno-Navarro has participated in numerous EU-funded and national/international research projects, leading the BABEL research group for over 17 years. He has coordinated the first Erasmus Mundus Master program in Spain and served as founding director of SpaRCIM, the Spanish research consortium in Informatics and Mathematics. His administrative roles include leadership in the FP6 IST Committee, Spanish National Contact Point for the Ministry of Education and Science, and vice-chair positions in national software engineering and technology platforms.
