Miguel Carvajal is a Professor of Journalism in the Department of Social and Human Sciences at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH), where he has been teaching since 2006. He directs the Master's Degree in Journalism Innovation and the Communication Research Group at UMH, and leads the "Novacult" research project funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation. With a PhD in Communication from the University of Navarra (2006), he has built an extensive academic career focused on understanding journalism's transformation while preserving its core values. His research interests center on media economics, journalism innovation, and new business models for sustainable journalism. Carvajal has published over 64 scientific publications including 27 articles in level 1 and 2 indexed journals (JCR, SJR, Latindex), and 32 book chapters. His work appears in high-impact journals such as Digital Journalism , Journalism Practice , and El Profesional de la Información , as well as books published by Routledge, Springer, and Edward Elgar Publishing. His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on journalism innovation, business models, data journalism, and the organizational transformation of news media. The 15 most recent articles reveal a progression from examining specific innovations (paywalls, chatbots, podcasts) to broader analyses of journalistic ecosystems, organizational structures, and the impact of innovations across Spanish and Latin American media landscapes. His research increasingly integrates technological, economic, and sociological perspectives on journalism's evolution.
