He previously held significant leadership positions including Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Campus and Global Development and Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning at the University of Sydney, and Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong. During his tenure at Melbourne, he established the Melbourne School of Design and founded major interdisciplinary research initiatives. Fellow of Computer-Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia (2005) Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (2005) Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts (2021) 2022 Stanford Lifetime Scientific Impact Ranking of the Top 2% of Top Scientists Professor Kvan's research spans design theory, digital environments, and urban data infrastructure. His work focuses on innovative approaches to design education, virtual heritage preservation, and sustainable urban development through digital tools. He has pioneered methodologies for virtual design studios and collaborative design environments, bridging traditional architectural practice with computational approaches. His publication record demonstrates consistent contributions to architecture and urban studies, with recent work emphasizing sustainable urban systems and design pedagogy. The 2021 publication 'Teacher Transition Into Innovative Learning Environments' reflects his ongoing commitment to educational innovation, while the 2018 'Urban Galapagos' series addresses complex adaptive systems in urban contexts.
