Dr. Naomi Datson is a Senior Lecturer in Applied Sport Science and Performance at the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences, Manchester Metropolitan University. Her career spans nearly two decades in elite women’s football, including roles as Head of Sport Science for England women’s teams (2010-2016) and contributions to UEFA’s Fitness for Football Advisory Group. She holds a PhD from Liverpool John Moores University, focusing on the physical demands and characteristics of elite female footballers. Her research interests center on women’s football performance, talent identification, and applied sport science, with a focus on physiology, performance analysis, and athlete development. She teaches courses such as Performance Analysis and High-Performance Support. Her work combines academic rigor with practical insights, informed by her experience supporting national teams and international tournaments. Dr. Datson’s publications explore match demands, testing protocols, and developmental strategies in women’s soccer. She advocates for evidence-based practices to enhance athlete performance and has collaborated with governing bodies to advance standards in sport science.
