Dr. Yu-Ling Chen serves as an Assistant Professor in Music Therapy within the Art, Design & Music Department at Queens University of Charlotte's College of Arts & Sciences, joining the faculty in fall 2019 after six years at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Education: Ph.D. in Music Education with an Emphasis on Music Therapy, University of Kansas M.M. in Piano Performance, University of Kansas M.M.E. in Music Education with an Emphasis on Music Therapy, University of Kansas B.F.A. in Music, National Taiwan Normal University Dr. Chen's research centers on music therapy interventions for neurodivergent children and dementia care , with expertise in Neurologic Music Therapy and a commitment to cultural humility . Her scholarly contributions include publications in Music Therapy Perspectives and Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment , alongside numerous conference presentations that bridge clinical practice and cultural exchange. Dr. Chen actively mentors students, fostering independent thinking and real-world community engagement through initiatives like the Taiwanese government-funded 2019 research trip to Taiwan. She co-founded the Dr. Frances J. McClain Music Therapy Students of Color Award to advance diversity in the field. As a collaborative pianist, she performs with ensembles including the Vida String Quartet and Queens Choral Union, leveraging artistic partnerships to support student development and fundraising.
