Joachimina Veldhuijzen van Zanten is a Professor of Biological Psychology in the Department of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Birmingham. She leads research at The Centre for National Training and Research Excellence in Understanding Behaviour and is actively accepting PhD students. Her research focuses on the influence of behaviour on psychological and physiological health across various populations including those with rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, older adults, and young people. Specific interests include physical activity barriers in clinical populations and the impact of behaviors on stress responses. Her recent publications (2024-2025) demonstrate expertise in exercise interventions for autoimmune conditions, cognitive aging, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, and nutritional approaches to stress management. Her work spans interdisciplinary boundaries, connecting psychology with physiology.
