Dr. Ashima Singh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology and Oncology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where she also serves as a member of the Cancer Center. With a strong background in epidemiology and biomedical informatics, Dr. Singh has established herself as a leading researcher in sickle cell disease (SCD) epidemiology, patient-reported outcomes, and health services research. Dr. Singh earned her B.Tech in Biotechnology from Uttar Pradesh Technical University, India (2003-2007), her MS in Biomedical Informatics from Rutgers University (2007-2009), and her PhD in Epidemiology from Pitt Public Health (2010-2015). Her professional journey includes positions as a Health Economics and Outcomes Research Fellow at Rutgers University, Senior Statistician at the University of Pittsburgh, Research Scientist at MCW, and Instructor before her current appointment as Assistant Professor since 2021. Dr. Singh's research program centers on sickle cell disease, with particular emphasis on patient-reported outcomes measurement using PROMIS tools, epidemiological patterns of disease complications, and data collection systems for rare hematological conditions. Her seminal 2019 paper in Blood Advances established clinically meaningful thresholds for interpreting PROMIS pain scores in children with SCD. Her recent work examines multi-state data collection patterns, social vulnerability indices, molecular correlates of pain, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on SCD outcomes through the SECURE-SCD registry. Dr. Singh's publication record demonstrates a strong trajectory in health services research related to sickle cell disease, with her 41 publications spanning epidemiology, health services research, and clinical hematology. Her most cited work relates to weight trajectories after bariatric surgery (543 citations), but her more recent publications have increasingly focused on sickle cell disease research in high-impact journals. Certificate of Excellence for Academic Achievements, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (2009) Second Prize, Poster Fellows Research Day, American Heart Association (2017) Outstanding Medical School Teacher Pin (2017-2020) Outstanding Graduate Student Educator Pin (2018-2019) MCW Collaborative for Healthcare Delivery Science Scholarship (2023-2024) Dr. Singh serves as Principal Investigator for multiple significant research projects including the CDC-funded Sickle Cell Data Collection Program in Wisconsin and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation-funded SECURE-SCD study. She also serves as Co-Investigator on NIH-funded research examining inflammation and pain mechanisms in sickle cell disease. Her teaching portfolio includes medical student research pathway instruction and epidemiology education, for which she has received multiple awards. Dr. Singh plays a leadership role in the American Society of Hematology's Sickle Cell Disease initiatives, contributing to national efforts to standardize data collection and improve care for sickle cell disease patients through her work on the ASH Research Collaborative Real-World Evidence Consortium and various committee positions.
