Shahin Jafarzadeh is a Researcher at the Rosseland Center for Solar Physics (RoCS) at the University of Oslo, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics. He has been in this position since December 2016. His research focuses on solar physics, particularly magnetic field dynamics and wave phenomena in the Sun's lower atmosphere. Dr. Jafarzadeh received his Dr.rer.nat. (PhD) with summa cum laude in astronomy with solar physics from the Department of Astrophysics at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany in 2013. Prior to that, he completed an MSc in Astrophysics at Lund Observatory, Lund University, Sweden in 2009. His academic journey includes postdoctoral positions at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Germany (2010-2013) and the Department of Theoretical Astrophysics at the University of Oslo (2013-2016). His research interests span solar physics with emphasis on magnetic field dynamics and wave propagation in the solar atmosphere. He specializes in high-resolution observations of the solar atmosphere using both ground-based and space/balloon-borne observatories. His work particularly leverages data from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) to study magnetohydrodynamic waves, solar chromosphere dynamics, and solar atmospheric phenomena at millimeter wavelengths. Analysis of Dr. Jafarzadeh's publication record reveals a strong focus on wave phenomena in the solar atmosphere, particularly magnetohydrodynamic waves in various solar structures including sunspots, pores, and fibrils. His recent work demonstrates increasing use of advanced observational techniques from next-generation solar telescopes and instruments like Solar Orbiter/PHI, ALMA, and IRIS. There's a clear progression toward more sophisticated analysis of wave modes and their role in solar atmospheric heating and dynamics. Dr. Jafarzadeh is actively involved in several major research initiatives including the ALMA – The key to the Sun's coronal heating problem (SolarALMA) project and the ESO ALMA Development Study for high-cadence solar imaging. He is a key member of the Waves in the Lower Solar Atmosphere (WaLSA) international research team and participates in Solar Orbiter's science working group on magnetoconvection. His professional affiliations include the International Astronomical Union and the European Astronomical Society. He contributes to community services through European Solar Physics Online Seminars (ESPOS), the Solar ALMA Science Archive (SALSA), the Norwegian Astronomy Olympiad, and public outreach initiatives including WaLSA's outreach programs and Astronomy on Tap Oslo events.
