Andrea Mazza is an Associate Professor at Politecnico di Torino (POLITO), Department of Energy (DENERG), where he serves as a Junior project manager and member of the Interdepartmental Center Ec-L - Energy Center Lab. He is a Senior Member of IEEE with extensive research activities focused on electrical power systems and energy transition. Dr. Mazza received his M.Sc. (Honors) and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 2011 and 2015, respectively. His research expertise spans multiple critical areas of modern power systems including: Distribution system optimization, reliability and resilience Integration of distributed energy resources and power-to-X plants Multi-carrier distribution systems (heat, gas, and electricity) Real-time simulation techniques and multi-site co-simulation Decision-making methods applied to electricity systems His research portfolio demonstrates a strong focus on addressing contemporary energy challenges through both theoretical and applied approaches. Recent publications reveal growing emphasis on digital twin applications, multi-energy systems optimization, and climate resilience of power infrastructure, particularly examining the impact of extreme weather events on distribution networks. Dr. Mazza has received multiple prestigious awards including the Best Presentation Award at SEST 2021, Best Paper Award at SEST 2020, and earlier career recognition through the Giancarlo Vallauri Degree Award and Optime Award in 2012. He actively contributes to the scientific community as President of the Italian Chapter of the IEEE Education Society (2024-2025), Scientific Coordinator of the local CIGRE Committee, and serves on editorial boards for multiple high-impact energy journals. Dr. Mazza also supervises PhD students and teaches across various engineering programs at Politecnico di Torino, demonstrating strong commitment to both research advancement and educational excellence in the energy sector.
