Gretar Tryggvason is the Charles A. Miller Jr. Distinguished Professor and Department Head of Mechanical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. He holds a PhD from Brown University (1985) and has held academic roles at the University of Notre Dame, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and the University of Michigan. His research focuses on computational fluid dynamics, multiphase flows, and direct numerical simulations. He has authored influential books on multiphase flow modeling and served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Computational Physics (2002–2015). Tryggvason has received numerous accolades, including the Thermal Fluids Engineering Award (2019), Fluids Engineering Award (2012), and AAAS Fellowship (2013). His work bridges fundamental fluid dynamics with applications in additive manufacturing, turbulent bubbly flows, and atomization. His educational contributions include leading curriculum reforms at multiple institutions and pioneering innovations in engineering education.
