Mélissande TOMCIK is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Montreal, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, holding dual appointments in the Department of French Language Literatures and the Centre for Classical Studies. Her research focuses on literary representations of disinformation in Latin texts and explores animal metaphors and wordplay in Latin poetry. She teaches courses such as 'History of Latin Literature,' 'Advanced Latin,' and 'Latin Lyric and Elegiac Poetry.' Her research expertise includes classical Latin literature, poetry analysis, and ancient Roman literary traditions. She has contributed to interdisciplinary studies of ancient epic poetry, particularly through intertextual readings of works by Statius, Valerius Flaccus, and Silius Italicus. Her recent work examines themes like rumor, virtue, and narrative deception in Flavian epic. Dr. TOMCIK has published monographs and articles on topics such as dawn/dusk imagery in Statius’ Thebaid and lion similes in ancient epics. She actively participates in academic conferences, presenting on subjects like 'Fake News in Flavian Epic' and 'Statius’ Literary Zoo.'
