Lee Barron is an Associate Professor in the Department of Design at Northumbria University, coordinating MA Luxury Brand Management programs across London and Amsterdam campuses. He also serves as the Faculty of Arts, Design and Social Sciences Co-ordinator for the Amsterdam campus, overseeing postgraduate and undergraduate program development. His research spans fashion design, celebrity culture, tattoo practices, and emerging technologies like AI and smart city innovations. Dr. Barron holds a PhD in Cultural Studies (2004), an MA in Cultural Studies (1997), and a Sociology degree (1995), complemented by a Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy (FHEA, 2009). His work bridges cultural theory with contemporary societal challenges, including sustainability and technological futures. Recent research focuses on the Anthropocene’s cultural representations, AI’s impact on media, and autonomous vehicle design fiction. His publications analyze intersections between music, fashion, and technology, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches. He has secured grants, including a £15k British Academy-funded project on grassroots sustainable futures. Advising two postgraduate researchers, Lee explores fashion’s future in manufacturing (Sarah Walton) and fashion film theory (Kyra Jewitt). His work engages communities through collaborative design practices and critical cultural analysis.
