Tea Sindbæk Andersen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies (ToRS) at the University of Copenhagen's Faculty of Humanities. Her academic work focuses on the contemporary history of Southeastern Europe, particularly examining uses of history, cultural memory, identity politics, and popular culture in the former Yugoslav area. She actively participates in the research project Mnemonic Migration - Transnational Circulation and Reception of Wartime Memories in post-Yugoslav Migrant Literature . Her educational background includes: Ph.D. in History from Aarhus University (2008), with thesis titled Usable history? The theme of genocide in Yugoslav historical culture, 1945-2002 MA in East European Studies from University of Copenhagen (2003) BA in East European Studies & Serbo-Croatian from University of Copenhagen (1999) Dr. Sindbæk Andersen's research interests center on how historical narratives shape contemporary identities in Southeast Europe, particularly examining memory politics surrounding Yugoslavia's dissolution. Her work explores how cultural memory operates across national borders, with special attention to literary representations, cinematic portrayals, and digital media platforms. She investigates how historical events like the World Wars and the Yugoslav conflicts are remembered, contested, and repurposed in different national contexts. Her recent publications reveal a strong trend toward examining transnational memory flows, particularly how wartime memories migrate across borders through literature and digital media. She has increasingly focused on the intersection of memory studies with digital culture, analyzing how social media platforms like Facebook facilitate the circulation of historical narratives. Her work consistently demonstrates how memory practices in the Balkans both reflect and challenge broader European memory frameworks. She serves in significant academic leadership roles: Member of the executive committee of the Memory Studies Association (MSA) Co-organizer of the second annual MSA conference in Copenhagen (2017) with 650 participants Vice chair of the EU/COST research network In Search of Transcultural Memory in Europe (2012-2016) Regarding supervision and grants, Dr. Sindbæk Andersen has co-supervised PhD student Ismar Dedović on research about First World War memory in Serbia, Bosnia, and Croatia. She has secured research funding including the NOS-HS exploratory research workshops New First World War Memories – Tectonics of Memory in Europe (2016-2017). Her academic employment history includes positions as Assistant Professor at ToRS (2012-2018), postdoctoral fellowships at Lund University and Aarhus University, and visiting positions at the University of York. Her research operates within collaborative frameworks, particularly through the Memory Studies Association and various international research networks focused on transcultural memory. She frequently collaborates with scholars like Barbara Törnquist-Plewa and Ismar Dedović on comparative memory studies across Southeast Europe.
