Professor Helena Mihaljević serves as ECDF-Professor of Data Science at HTW Berlin (University of Applied Sciences), appointed in July 2018. She holds her position within the School of Computing, Communication and Business, Department of Computer Science, Communication and Business, with her office located at Wilhelminenhofstraße 75A, Building C, Room 649 in Berlin. Her research focuses on applied data science with emphasis on statistical data analysis, machine learning, natural language processing, and algorithmic transparency . She specializes in data science applications for text corpora and urban data, applied machine learning, and data algorithms with privacy considerations. Her work bridges technical expertise with social impact, particularly in analyzing the gender gap in STEM fields through publication pattern analysis. Professor Mihaljević leads research activities in the interdisciplinary 'Gender Gap in Science' project supported by the International Science Council, developing algorithms to analyze women's representation in research publications, collaboration patterns, and access to prestigious journals. She also collaborates with Berlin's public transport provider BVG, which co-finances her professorship.
