Brian H. Chen, PhD, MPH is a Scientist at the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute and an Affiliate at the University of California San Francisco. His research focuses on the development and validation of genomic, molecular, and algorithmic biomarkers of aging, with particular expertise in epigenetic clocks as measures of biological aging. Previously, he served as Chief Science Officer of a biotech start-up and completed postdoctoral training at the National Institute on Aging, the Framingham Heart Study, and UCLA. Dr. Chen's research interests span Aging, Epigenetics, Genomics, Biomarkers, and Machine Learning . His work bridges epidemiological studies with advanced computational approaches to develop and validate biomarkers that predict health outcomes and mortality. He has made significant contributions to understanding how DNA methylation patterns can serve as reliable indicators of biological aging processes across diverse populations. His publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on aging biomarkers, with recent work addressing foundational principles of biological aging, translation challenges for biomarkers, and cross-tissue applications of epigenetic clocks. His 2024 publication in Nature Medicine on biomarker validation represents a significant contribution to establishing standards for translating aging biomarkers into clinical practice. Dr. Chen maintains active research collaborations as evidenced by his extensive co-authorship network across major aging studies including the Framingham Heart Study, Women's Health Initiative, and multiple international consortia. His work frequently appears in high-impact journals including Nature Communications, Genome Biology, and Aging.
