Professor Wojciech Katner is a distinguished academic at the University of Lodz's Faculty of Law and Administration, where he has served since 1972. Currently holding the position of full professor in the Department of Commercial Law, Insurance and Industrial Property, he has progressed through the academic ranks from assistant to his current position, achieving the title of professor in 1997 and becoming a full professor in 2001. His career includes significant administrative roles including Vice-Dean (1989-92), Vice-Rector for International Cooperation (2005-08), and leadership positions in national institutions such as Vice-President of the Supreme Audit Office (1992-97) and Deputy Minister of Economy (1997-2001). Professor Katner's research focuses on classical civil law with special emphasis on property law (including ownership and land easements), contract law (particularly commercial contracts), environmental protection law, and commercial law with attention to entrepreneurs' legal status, business entities, and civil liability of entrepreneurs. His scholarly work examines the intersection of civil law principles with commercial practice, analyzing topics such as commercial sales, leasing agreements, and business transactions within both national and international contexts. His scholarly output demonstrates consistent focus on commercial law development, with particular attention to contract theory, business transactions, and the legal framework for entrepreneurs. His leadership extends to international collaborations including the Polish-American Offset Program with the University of Texas and ongoing Fulbright program involvement through the Polish Fulbright Alumni Association which he chairs honorarily.
