Simon Scott is a Professor of Mathematics at King's College London, affiliated with the Department of Mathematics within the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences. He holds a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford (1993) and has held positions at Oxford University, Universidad de los Andes, and SISSA before joining King's in 1998. His research focuses on geometric analysis, traces of Fourier integral operators, and Lie theory, with applications to topology, quantum field theory, and spectral invariants. Research Interests: Simon's work integrates pseudodifferential operators, index theory, and non-commutative geometry to construct invariants of manifolds. Notably, he explores the interplay between operator spectra and geometric/topological properties of spaces, with contributions to TQFT (Topological Quantum Field Theory) and gauge group representations. Key Achievements: He authored a major research book on traces and determinants of pseudodifferential operators and holds a Leverhulme Trust Research Fellowship (2005). His recent work includes studies on residue-torsion, vertical genera, and log TQFT, advancing geometric analysis and spectral theory. Collaborations & Leadership: He co-led a project on formal cyber incident models (2013–2016) and is building a geometric analysis research group at King’s, emphasizing international collaborations in areas like elliptic boundary conditions and quantum field theory.
