Prof. Swen Geiss is a Professor of Architecture & Resources at Alanus University of Arts & Society, leading the Department of Architecture and Resources within the Faculty of Architecture. He is a founding member of the Institute for Process Architecture and has expanded his professorship to include building theory and typology research. His career includes roles as Senior Lecturer at University of East London (2004-2006) and teaching positions at University of Greenwich (2003-2011). Since 2003, he has been a partner in the architectural firm team51.5°architekten, based in Wuppertal and London. His research focuses on sustainable architecture, energy-efficient building strategies, adaptive reuse of existing structures, and community-oriented project development. Notable projects include the FWS Görlitz urban redevelopment (2017-2020), the Alte Vogtei civic center (2016), and the award-winning Holzbox energy-efficient housing project (2007-2008). He has collaborated with institutions like the German Federal Institute for Research on Building (BBSR) and local municipalities on projects such as the Baukultur konkret research initiative (2014-2017). Prof. Geiss holds a dual degree in architecture from TH Darmstadt and RWTH Aachen (1988-1996). His work has been recognized with over 15 major awards, including top prizes in international design competitions. He has published extensively on topics ranging from energy-optimized construction to urban renewal strategies, with works featured in academic journals like Building with Wood and AIT Intelligent Architecture. His professional affiliations include membership in the Innovation Council for Regional Development (2010-2016) and registration as an energy consultant for historic buildings (KfW/WTA since 2012). Current projects emphasize participatory urban processes and multi-generational housing solutions, reflecting his commitment to socially responsible architecture.
