Filiz UMAROĞULLARI is an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture at Trakya University's Faculty of Architecture, where she also serves as the Director of the Institute of Science since August 28, 2024. Previously, she was Deputy Head of the Department of Architecture from January 2017 to January 2019. Her academic career at Trakya University spans from Research Assistant (1998) to Instructor (2008), Assistant Professor (2011), and finally Associate Professor (2020). She received her Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Trakya University in 1997, followed by a Master's degree in 2001 with a thesis on 'Use of Glass Material in the Building Shell,' and completed her PhD in 2011 with a dissertation titled 'Experimental and Numerical Evaluation of the Location and Thickness of Insulation in Reinforced Concrete Vertical Building Shell in Terms of Moisture Control.' Professor UMAROĞULLARI's research focuses on building physics, thermal insulation, indoor air quality, energy efficiency in buildings, green building certification, and traditional architecture. Her work explores the relationship between architectural design and environmental performance, with particular attention to moisture control in building envelopes, thermal comfort in educational facilities, and sustainable adaptation of historic structures. She has conducted extensive research on insulation placement in concrete walls and its impact on moisture management, as well as studies on CO2 and particulate matter in higher education buildings. Her publication record shows consistent output with a focus on building science topics, particularly thermal performance, indoor environmental quality, and sustainable design approaches. Recent works include analyses of Turkey's green building certification systems, energy-efficient passive design in local architecture contexts, and investigations of thermal comfort parameters in educational buildings. Her research often combines experimental methods with simulation techniques to evaluate building performance. She has contributed to numerous research projects including 'Edirne Anıtları Serisi: 1 Dini Yapılar' (2012-2015), 'Edirne de Merkezî Kamu Binalarinin Deprem Risk ve Hasar Tespitinin Belirlenmesi' (2012-2014), and 'Egitim Yapilarinda Iç Hava Kalitesinin Arastirilmasi' (2014-2016), demonstrating her commitment to both theoretical research and practical applications in the field of architecture. Professor UMAROĞULLARI teaches courses including 'Experiment Planning,' 'Climate and Building Envelope Design,' 'Architectural Representation Techniques,' 'Perspective and Shadow in Architectural Design,' 'Descriptive Geometry,' 'Building Biology,' 'Building Project,' 'Transparency in Architecture,' and 'Building Facade Systems,' covering both theoretical and practical aspects of architectural education.
