Maurizio Schmid is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Director of the BioLab³ Biomedical Engineering Laboratory at Roma Tre University in Rome, Italy. He holds a MSc in Electrical Engineering from Sapienza University of Rome (2000) and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Bologna (2004). His research focuses on biomedical signal processing, rehabilitation engineering, and wearable systems for physical activity monitoring, with emphasis on human movement analysis and data mining integration. His career includes roles as a research associate at Roma Tre University (2004–2006) and Harvard Medical School (2006–2008). He coordinates the PhD program in Applied Electronics at Roma Tre University and serves on editorial boards for Electronics , Frontiers in Computational Physiology and Medicine , and JMIR Serious Games . He is a member of IEEE, EMBS, and GNB. Key research areas include postural stability, human-robot collaboration, and biomedical device quality control. He has led projects funded by the EU, MIUR, and national programs, such as the TREMOR BCI-driven tremor suppression system (2008–2011). His work spans over 70 peer-reviewed articles, with recent contributions in wearable sensor systems, gait analysis, and energy harvesting for biomedical applications. His grants and collaborations include studies on stroke rehabilitation, Duchenne muscular dystrophy progression, and pandemic-related public health strategies. He advises on biomedical equipment maintenance and chairs academic boards in engineering and cognitive psychology.
