Esben Thormann is a Professor in the Department of Physical Chemistry at the Technical University of Denmark. His research focuses on material science, polymer chemistry, and surface interactions, with applications in sustainable adhesives, electrochemical sensors, and environmental impact assessment. He contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through biobased materials and produced water analysis. Active projects: Ion pairing in polyelectrolytes, improved environmental impact assessment of produced water, single-molecule studies of polyphenols. Research Trends: Recent work includes bio-inspired adhesives, electrochemical chloride ion detection, and sweat analysis technologies. His studies explore polymer surface properties, molecular interactions, and dielectric spectroscopy. Patents: Co-invented a device for salt concentration measurement in biological fluids (WO2024132075). Collaborations: Works with researchers from Denmark and internationally on projects involving reservoir fluids, hydrocolloids, and biomedical materials. Advising: Supervises multiple PhD students including Ida E. Sørensen, Jie Kang, and Simone H. Yazdabadi Moghaddam.
