Worku Bitew is Professor and Chair of the Department of Mathematics at Farmingdale State College. His research applies mathematical analysis to environmental, economic, and resource management challenges, with focuses on optimal control, sustainable fisheries, and aquaculture. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Temple University (2008). Research Interests: His work bridges calculus of variations, optimal resource allocation, and environmental systems. Key areas include coastal ecosystem remediation, bioeconomic modeling of fisheries, dynamic optimization in business, and mathematical methods for sustainability. Awards: SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship & Creative Activities CSTEP Award for Mentoring (recognizing student project leadership) Teaching & Advising: He oversees a broad curriculum spanning foundational to advanced mathematics, including operations research and applied seminars. Mentored students have won state-level research competitions.
