Frank van Vliet is a Professor in Microwave Integration at the University of Twente (Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science) and a Principal Scientist at TNO Applied Research. His career spans cutting-edge microwave IC design, phased-array technology, and GaN component development. University of Twente – Professor in Microwave Integration (2007–present) TNO – Principal Scientist (1997–present) European Microwave Association – Board member Education includes an M.Sc. (1992) and Ph.D. (1995) in Electrical Engineering from Delft University of Technology, with honors. His research established the Centre for Array Technology (CAT) at Twente. Research interests focus on MMICs (GaN/AlGaN/GaN), phased-array systems , antenna arrays , beamforming , power amplifier design , and microwave measurement techniques . His work bridges theory and practical implementation in radar, communication, and space systems. Recent article trends include GaN-based power amplifiers for S/X-band applications, stacked-FET architectures, advanced beamforming ICs in CMOS/BiCMOS, and spatial/frequency filtering techniques. Collaborations emphasize European defense and space agency standards . Awards and leadership roles include chairing EuMIC 2012, Guest Editor for IEEE MTT Special Issue (2013), and General Chair for European Microwave Week 2020. He contributes to ESA and EDA technical boards. Labs and teams include the Centre for Array Technology (CAT) at Twente and collaborations with TNO on industrial microwave R&D. His work intersects with IEEE technical committees on phased arrays and compound semiconductor ICs.
