Alice C Helliwell is an Assistant Professor in Philosophy at Northeastern University London, specializing in AI art and computational creativity. Her research addresses philosophical questions about machine creativity, AI ethics, and the aesthetics of AI-generated art. She holds a PhD from the University of Kent and has held roles including Interim Director of the Doctoral Research School at NU London (2023-24). Her current projects include a Visiting Fellowship at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität exploring AI responsibility frameworks. Education includes: PhD in History and Philosophy of Art (University of Kent) MA in History and Philosophy of Art (University of Kent, Paris) PGCert in Occupational Psychology (Birkbeck, University of London) MA(Hons) in Philosophy and Psychology (University of Edinburgh) Her research spans: Philosophy of technology Creativity theory Applied AI ethics Landscape of AI ethics in creative industries Recent publications focus on AI alignment problems, cluster accounts of art, and Wittgensteinian analyses of AI governance. She co-edited volumes on Wittgenstein and AI (2024) and authored key works linking Darwinian creativity models to computational systems. Awards include the Paris Scholarship and Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship. Professional roles include Associate Editor at AI & Society (2024–present) and Trustee of the British Society of Aesthetics. Teaching focuses on AI/data ethics and aesthetics at NU London, with supervision of dissertations in AI art, technology ethics, and aesthetics. She holds Fellowship of Advance HE (2024).
