Professor Paulo De Souza is the Executive Dean of the School of Engineering at Edith Cowan University (ECU). With over two decades of experience, he bridges science, industry, and society, focusing on engineering solutions for environmental challenges, Mars exploration, and industrial processes. His career includes roles as Dean (Research) at Griffith University, Science Director at CSIRO, and Collaborating Scientist with NASA’s Mars Exploration Rover program. Education: PhD (Dr rer. nat.) in Physics from Johannes Gutenberg Universität, Mainz Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from UFES, Brazil Research Interests: Environmental monitoring via sensor networks and machine learning Planetary science and Mars geology RFID technology for ecological studies Verification and validation of aerospace systems Key Awards: Fellowships from Australian Computer Society, Governance Institute of Australia, and Engineers Australia Contributor to 2004 Science Magazine Breakthrough of the Year Advising & Grants: Leadership in interdisciplinary research teams Experience in securing industry and government funding for large-scale projects Labs & Teams: Active in environmental sensor network design, Mars rover data analysis, and bioengineering projects involving stingless bees.
