Dr. Iain Robertson is a Reader in Geography at Swansea University, affiliated with the Department of Geography within the School of Biosciences, Geography and Physics. His research focuses on stable isotopes, dendrochronology, dendroclimatology, and environmental remediation using biochar. He supervises postgraduate students in projects related to climate reconstruction, mine pollution, and sustainable waste management. Robertson’s work integrates field studies, isotopic analysis, and interdisciplinary approaches to address global environmental challenges. His research highlights include long-term climate reconstructions using tree rings, biochar applications in contaminated environments, and assessing water quality downstream of abandoned mines. Robertson collaborates internationally, with studies spanning tropical regions, European watersheds, and African ecosystems. He teaches modules such as GEG100 (Geographical Skills) and contributes to the Geography Dissertation program, emphasizing practical research skills and independent project development. Recent publications explore topics like tropical tree-ring chronologies, pyrolysis of faecal sludge for nutrient recovery, and biochar’s role in remediating microplastic and metal contaminants. His work bridges environmental science with sustainable solutions, addressing issues like circular economy practices and climate change mitigation.
