Dr. Tracey Coady is a Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Science at South East Technological University (SETU), affiliated with the Department of Science and the Pharmaceutical and Molecular Biotechnology Research Centre (PMBRC). She joined SETU in 2019 after completing a PhD in organic chemistry and biotechnology (2014) and postdoctoral roles in enzyme discovery and industrial chemistry. Her research focuses on green chemistry, biodegradation of synthetic polymers, and circular economy applications through enzymatic processes. She actively promotes undergraduate research via the SURE Network and contributes to teaching modules in organic chemistry, pharmacology, and spectroscopic analysis. Dr. Coady holds a BSc (Hons) in Pharmaceutical Sciences and has received the HETAC Academic Excellence Award (2010). She currently supervises three postgraduate students and engages in professional development in blended learning and sustainability in education. Education: BSc (Hons) in Pharmaceutical Science, SETU (2006–2010) PhD in Organic Chemistry and Biotechnology, SETU (2010–2014) Research Interests: Dr. Coady’s work emphasizes sustainable organic synthesis, biocatalysis, and polymer biodegradation. She explores hydrolase-catalyzed reactions, flow chemistry, and anion recognition motifs to advance eco-friendly chemical processes. Her recent projects include developing biodegradation strategies for synthetic polymers and optimizing enzyme-based synthesis pathways. These efforts align with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to environmental sustainability and responsible consumption. Teaching and Engagement: She teaches organic chemistry, pharmaceutical science, and analytical techniques at undergraduate levels. Her pedagogical contributions include fostering student research through SURE Network initiatives and adapting curricula for blended learning and universal design principles. She also serves as an internal examiner for postgraduate confirmations and reviews manuscripts for Oxford University Press. Awards and Recognition: HETAC Academic Excellence Award (2010) National Forum Digital Badge in Universal Design for Learning (2022) Labs and Collaborations: As a PMBRC member, Dr. Coady collaborates on enzyme discovery platforms and green lab initiatives. Notable projects include the PMBRC Greener Lab Guide and contributions to the Wales Ireland Network for Scientific Skills (INTERREG 4A). Her industry experience at Merck Sharpe & Dohme informs her research on API synthesis and sterile injectable product development.
