Zvonimir Dogic is a Professor of Physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), and a Hans Fischer Senior Fellow at TUM-IAS since 2013. His research focuses on self-assembly mechanisms in soft matter and biophysical systems, particularly exploring the roles of particle shape, chirality, and active processes in material organization.
Education: BA (1995) and PhD (2001) in Physics from Brandeis University, followed by postdoctoral research at Forschungszentrum Jülich (Humboldt Fellowship) and the University of Pennsylvania. He held positions at Harvard University (Rowland Junior Fellow) and Brandeis University before joining UCSB in 2017.
Research Interests: Soft matter physics, biophysics, self-assembly of active and passive systems, far-from-equilibrium dynamics, and materials science. His work spans colloidal systems, liquid crystals, and bio-inspired materials, with applications to nanotechnology and biological processes like ciliary motion.
Selected Awards: Cozzarelli Prize (2011), NSF-CAREER Award (2009), NIH K25 Award (2009), Rowland Junior Fellowship (2003), Humboldt Fellowship (2001).
Publications emphasize hierarchical active matter systems, chiral liquid crystals, and DNA-based self-assembly. His work bridges fundamental physics and practical applications in biomaterials and nanotechnology.
