Zvjezdana Sandic

Zvjezdana Sandic is an Assistant Professor at the University of Banja Luka, affiliated with the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and serving as Head of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry. Her academic career spans over two decades, with roles including Senior Assistant (2008-2017) and Professional Associate (1999-2008).

Her research focuses on environmental applications of inorganic chemistry, particularly the synthesis and application of amino-functionalized macroporous polymers and polymer/bentonite composites for pollutant removal from aqueous solutions. Key areas include heavy metal sorption (Cu(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), Cr(VI)), textile dye removal, and environmental protection technologies.

Selected publications highlight her work on polymer composite mechanisms for metal ion sorption and chromium adsorption, with applications in hazardous materials management and wastewater treatment. She coordinates national projects related to magnetic polymer composites for pollutant removal and maintains active research in materials science.

As a member of the Association of Technology Engineers of the Republic of Srpska and the Association of Chemical Engineers of Serbia, she contributes to professional networks while teaching courses in stoichiometry, coordination chemistry, and water chemistry.
