Zorana Jovanovic Andersen

Zorana Jovanovic Andersen serves as Professor in Environmental Epidemiology at the Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen, and chairs the European Respiratory Society Environment and Health Committee. She actively translates research into policy through roles in Copenhagen Municipality's Expert group on Air Pollution, Danish Council for Disease Prevention, and International Society for Environmental Epidemiology Policy Committee.

Her research centers on long-term air pollution exposure effects across cardiovascular/metabolic diseases, chronic/infectious respiratory conditions, cancer, and dementia. Additional investigations include road traffic noise impacts, environmental aging interactions, air pollution-physical activity dynamics, ultrafine particles (using Google Air View data), air pollution-COVID-19 relationships, and capacity building in Serbia/Western Balkans.

Prof. Andersen leads major cohort studies including the Danish Nurse Cohort, Nationwide Danish Administrative cohort (covering all Danish citizens), and European ELAPSE project. Her advocacy focuses on implementing evidence-based air pollution reduction strategies through engagement with policymakers at local, national, European, and global levels to protect public health.
