Professor Zongbo Shi is a Professor of Atmospheric Biogeochemistry at the University of Birmingham's School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. His research focuses on atmospheric chemistry, air pollution, and their interactions with ecosystems, employing field measurements, laboratory analyses, and numerical modelling. He holds a PhD from the China University of Mining and Technology and a BA in Geology from Anhui University of Science and Technology.
Key research areas include aerosol transformation processes, mineral dust impacts, and the development of sustainable air quality solutions. He leads the Air Pollution Management and Control program and teaches courses such as Environmental Pollution and Air Pollution Control Technology. Professor Shi is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and contributes to peer review for NERC, NSF, and other bodies.
His recent work explores topics like secondary organic aerosol formation on mineral dust, BTEX pollution in urban Europe, and the health risks of gas cooking. He collaborates with international teams on projects addressing climate change, indoor air quality, and environmental justice.
