Zoi Kourkouraidou is a Researcher affiliated with the University of Hamburg and Max Planck Institute for Meteorology since 2022, focusing on Ocean Energetics and Climate Variability.
Her research explores how internal tides interact with mesoscale eddies, leading to energy dissipation and diapycnal mixing in the ocean. She utilizes the high-resolution ICON-O global circulation model (5km) to address gaps in understanding these interactions globally.
Key trends in her publications include mode decomposition techniques, ocean energy transfers, and high-resolution climate modeling. She collaborates with institutions like the Multiscale Ocean Dynamics Lab at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the Climate and Fluid Physics Group at Australian National University.
Supervised by Prof. Dr. Jin-Song von Storch and Dr. Manita Chouksey, her work is funded by the DFG CRC181 project on Energy transfers in atmosphere and ocean. She has presented at international conferences including Ocean Sciences Meeting (2024), EGU General Assembly (2023), and ICYMARE (2022).
