Associate Professor Ziyad Abunada serves as Head of the College of Project Management, Built Environment, Asset & Maintenance Management at CQUniversity's School of Engineering and Technology. He holds a PhD in sustainable engineering from the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on sustainable development, circular economy, climate change management, and environmental remediation. Key areas include waste-free futures, life cycle assessment, and net-zero emission frameworks. He has led projects with Cement Australia and Queensland Water Department, attracting international recognition including the ISESCO Best Research Award (2017) and AINAC Best Paper (2012). Active in professional bodies like PMI and ICE-UK, he also serves as a peer reviewer for SCI-indexed journals.
Academic roles include Discipline Lead for Project Management and supervision of research higher degree (RHD) students across Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Science. Current teaching spans project management, complex project frameworks, and BIM systems. Professional experience includes roles with Human Appeal-UK, World Bank, and UNICEF, along with consultancy in environmental management and infrastructure projects. His work bridges academia and industry through funded research and collaborative initiatives.
